Topic 1: The way towards sustainable and resilient food systems
We are very interested in collaborating with universities and research institutions outside Germany to tackle European challenges in sustainable food systems and biotechnological innovation.
At the August-Wilhelm Scheer Institute (AWSi), we specialize in applying cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to optimize and digitize food systems. For instance, we have utilized AI to optimize the farming processes of black soldier flies, improving production efficiency.
In addition, we leverage AI to bring transparency to the entire value chain of alternative protein products. This includes tracking and analyzing every stage—from production and transportation to the final product—ensuring sustainability and traceability throughout the process. By integrating these technologies, we aim to make alternative proteins more transparent and trustworthy, thereby enhancing trust and acceptance among consumers and stakeholders.
