As a health research institute, we can contribute to this call in two main ways:
1. Assessing the health benefits of consortium products
We can evaluate whether the products developed by the consortium are healthy, which would enhance their appeal in marketing. For example, sustainable food often replaces non-sustainable options, such as shifting protein sources. From a health perspective, it is essential to confirm that these products are beneficial to our well-being.
2. Ensuring the safety of new products
To successfully enter the market and facilitate the transfer of results to real-world applications, ensuring the safety of food products is crucial. We can contribute by assessing the allergenicity of these products, ensuring they meet the necessary safety standards.
IBIMA (Biomedical Research Institute of Malaga) is a hub for multidisciplinary research in biomedicine and nanomedicine, centered around the Regional and Virgen de la Victoria University Hospitals in Malaga. It collaborates with Primary Care, the biotechnological groups of the University of Malaga, and the Andalusian Centre for Nanomedicine and Biotechnology (BIONAND).
The institute's primary objective is to foster excellence in research, with a focus on translational research, enabling the transfer of findings into clinical practice, biotechnological applications, and innovative solutions. IBIMA creates and promotes a multidisciplinary research space in biomedicine and nanomedicine, contributing to the scientific foundation of programs and policies within the National Health System. It emphasizes translational research at the biomolecular, clinical, epidemiological, and technological levels to ensure the practical application of scientific advancements in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of prevalent health issues at regional, national, and international levels.
IBIMA integrates over 80 research groups from the University of Malaga and the Public Health System across its associated health centers.
The research areas of the institute include:
Cardiovascular diseases, obesity, and diabetes. Environmental determinants and lifestyle
Oncology and Hematology
Neurosciences, chronicity, aging, and health in vulnerable populations
Autoimmune, infectious, inflammatory, and allergic diseases
Nanodiagnostics
Nanosystems and advanced therapies
IBIMA Rare – Rare diseases (Transversal area)
IBIMA Tech – Health Technology and Innovation Area (Transversal area)
