Topic 1: The way towards sustainable and resilient food systems
We employ optimization techniques and simulation modeling to achieve the following objectives:
- Production Planning and Resource Efficiency: Enhancing production systems to reduce waste, improve resource
allocation, and lower carbon footprints.
- Workforce Optimization and Automation: Designing intelligent scheduling systems that integrate automation and
adaptive task allocation for increased efficiency.
- Resilient and Sustainable Supply Chain Design: Developing robust supply chain strategies to mitigate risks, enhance
flexibility, and minimize environmental impacts.
Our Interest and Contribution:
We are keen to participate as partners in consortiums addressing critical challenges under the Future Foods Partnership. Our specific interest lies in developing and scaling innovative solutions for sustainable food production and distribution systems. Our team offers expertise in:
- Designing scalable strategies to optimize food supply chains while addressing sustainability goals.
- Developing data-driven frameworks for resource optimization and minimizing production losses.
- Applying location-based analysis to improve the efficiency of food logistics and distribution systems.
By collaborating with IIP’s Sustainable Value Chain Group, research projects benefit from a robust foundation in systems analysis, sustainability modeling, and practical implementation, ensuring impactful and actionable outcomes for the future of food systems.
Our research group, "Sustainable Value Chains" at the Institute for Industrial Production (IIP), part of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), specializes in sustainable value chains, developing innovative strategies to enhance production systems and supply chains with a strong focus on sustainability, efficiency, and resilience. At IIP, we combine advanced operations research, data-driven modeling, and interdisciplinary collaboration to support industries and policymakers in transitioning to environmentally and economically sustainable systems.
