Topic 1: The way towards sustainable and resilient food systems
Our research is mainly focused on the fields of food and the environment. The studies we face are diverse, including the recovery of bioactive compounds from agri-food waste and the characterization of food products to establish their authenticity and origin.
Related to this offer, and in the framework of the circular bioeconomy, the final objective of our main research line is the design of processes for the recovery of bioactive compounds (polyphenols, carotenoids, organic acids, etc.) from agri-food waste, which allow its valorization while reducing its environmental impact.
Our areas of expertise are:
• Sample treatment: advanced extraction techniques, green solvents, resin-based extractive chromatography, membrane-assisted purification
• Development of green analytical methods: liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, spectrophotometry, molecular fluorescence, electrochemical sensors
• Experimental design: factorial design, response functions, model fitting
• Metabolism and pharmacokinetics
• Statistics and chemometrics: multivariate data analysis
Our research group Recicle4Antiox (https://www.ub.edu/FAAST/) is a research group of the University of Barcelona, a public university focused on superior education and research.
