Topic 1: The way towards sustainable and resilient food systems
The agrifood industry currently has a significant consumption of water and chemical products, with daily use ranging from 600 to 1,800 m³ in medium-sized companies. This high water consumption leads to high energy costs associated with water cooling. In addition, approximately 35,000 kg/year of chemicals are required for food disinfection, which generates potentially carcinogenic by-products, affecting both the organoleptic properties of the products and food safety.
URAPHEX aims to become a benchmark in the optimization and sustainability of water use in industrial processes, looking to drastically reduce water consumption and eliminate the use of chemicals that are harmful to the environment.
URAPHEX has developed and patented an efficient, sustainable and cost-effective solution for the disinfection of water used in industrial processes based on photoelectrocatalysis.
The technology completely eliminates the use of chemicals, reduces the by-products generated and reduces water and energy consumption by 90%, while respecting the organoleptic properties of the product at all times.
The technology has 3 possible fields of action:
- UraFood: focused on washing and disinfection of vegetables for III, IV and V range food processes.
- UraCool: focused on the control and disinfection of cooling process water against legionella, such as evaporative towers and condensers.
- UraCRS: focused on the use of energy and water in sterilization systems for V range products (autoclaves).
In addition, this technology has a platform that allows real-time control and monitoring of the process, as well as the calculation of the microbiological risk through artificial intelligence algorithms, maximizing the traceability and food safety of the process.
