Topic 1: The way towards sustainable and resilient food systems
Improve cereal properties and safety with post-harvest sorting to decrease its downgrading to feed. Our cereal sorting platform is one way to assess how to get more added value out of cereals and enable to cultivate them in a less intensify or organic way. Sorting them allow to improve their properties and exclude contaminants. This enables to reduced downgraded or wasted cereals while getting more value of locally produced cereals. We have a got a quite unique kernel by kernel optical sorter device which allows sorting and phenotyping based one the visible and infrared spectra. We have the knowledge to build models for such type of technology. We also have a milling facility and methods to analyze the technological quality of cereals.
The CRA-W brings together scientific research, service and support functions in support of farmers, stockbreeders, horticulturists, forestry producers and operators in the agri-food sector. One of its focus is cereal technology, food safety and kernel by kernel phenotyping/sorting with infrared and visible spectroscopy modelling (post-harvest technology).
