Topic 2: New foods – Fostering innovations in food design, processing and supply via demand-and-supply reorientation
POSTBIOTECH R&D specializes in the development of postbiotic feed additives that will provide immunomodulatory effects by regulating the intestinal flora of chickens, reducingthe use of antibiotics, and increasing the quality and productivity of meat, milk and eggs, byusing the probiotic Lactobacilli that we produce by isolating them from animal colostrum. We prepare the media we use to develop probiotic bacteria with new formulations using organic wastes (such as whey powder, molasses, sesame husk, alfalfa plant powder), thus making them independent of the commercial media used to develop probiotic bacteria. Thisway, we can produce postbiotics rich in amino and organic acids. By creating a vital alternative to feed additives and antibiotics, which are significant expenses for farm ownersand whose prices are increasing daily, we contribute to people's nutrition with healthier and higher-quality products.
Our project involves the development of novel postbiotic formulations tailored specificallyfor poultry health and nutrition. In the formula using our isolate bacteria with provenprobiotic properties, organic waste materials such as whey powder, molasses, sesame husk, and alfalfa plant powder were used both during the development of probiotics and thepreparation of the formula. Utilizing these sustainable production methods minimisesenvironmental impact and reduces production costs. Our two notable achievements, received national funds, are the successful development ofprototype postbiotic formulations optimized for the poultry industry and the validationthrough in vitro and preliminary in vivo studies.
Both co-founders are professors at the Faculty of Pharmacy, leading national projects withthe academicians responsible for the courses Agricultural Technology, Laboratory andVeterinary Health and Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology. Besides AnadoluUniversity, we established strategic partnerships, among others, with the Turkish PoultryFarming Association, the Turkish Branch of the World's Poultry Science Association, andthe Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Zerrin Canturk, After completing the PhD in General Microbiology in 2013, She has been workingon microbiota, biotics, and cell-bacteria cocultures for the last 10 years. Manyprobiotic strains that we have isolated from different origins are stored in ourlaboratory collection. She completed 2 master's thesis consultancies on postbiotics. From now on, she aims to produce products on this subject since postbiotics havemany application areas.Prof. Miris Dikmen, co founder, holds a Doctorate in Medical Biology fromEskisehir Osmangazi University, Turkey, completed between 1996 and 2003. Priorto this, she pursued postgraduate studies in Medical Biology at the sameinstitution. Her undergraduate education in Biology was completed at HacettepeUniversity. Prof. Dikmen's research interests encompass Pharmacology,Genomics, and Molecular Biology of Cancer. Both co-founders (CEO and CTO) are female and the main shareholders. To ensure gender-equitable representation, we will actively recruit and promote women in leadership roles, leveraging the high representation of female graduates in Pharmacy. During our companystructuring, we will pay attention to the fact that the experienced sales and marketingexperts (veterinarians and zootechnists) who direct animal feed additives are men. We willprioritize diversity and inclusion. Our team currently includes two female PhD graduates and one female working on amaster's degree
