Topic 2: Towards diverse, sustainable and circular food processing systems
We are a research group based in the Azores, Portugal, with a microalgae and cyanobacteria culture collection called BACA (Bank of Algae and Cyanobacteria of the Azores; https://baca.uac.pt). We have experience in characterisation and biomass production and can supply novel and unsited strains for use in feed, biotechnology and pharmaceutical applications. We also conduct applied research using zebrafish larvae to ensure the absence of toxicity and behavioural effects, as well as to determine several functional properties of the biomass, such as anti-inflammatory and lipid-reducing properties.
CIBIO-Azores is a research group that is part of CIBIO and is located on São Miguel Island in the Azores, Portugal. The group works in several fields, from ecology and systematics to applied biotechnology, using algae and cyanobacteria.
