Topic 1: Domestic food practices for enhancing sustainable and healthy diets
As a PhD in food chemistry with a professional focus on science communication, this call is highly relevant to my expertise. In recent years, there has been a growing demand within German society—mirroring trends observed in many other countries—for reliable and accessible information on sustainable nutrition. Providing consumers with clear, evidence-based information on food, its health implications, as well as its economic and environmental impacts is essential to enable informed, rational, and balanced decision-making. This, in turn, highlights the critical importance of effective science communication and educational initiatives.
Within this context, I contribute both in-depth expertise in food safety and analytical chemistry and extensive experience in communicating complex scientific topics in a target-group-oriented manner. I am particularly interested in participating in a consortium whose partners are committed to transferring scientific findings directly into society through innovative approaches. Our primary interest therefore lies in Topic 1, while Topic 3—particularly aspects related to transparency—also represents a highly relevant area.
The Didactics of Chemistry working group brings many years of experience in developing low-cost experimental setups and in planning and conducting chemistry laboratories for pupils, frequently supported by digital media and, more recently, artificial intelligence. In addition to low-cost experiments, we are able to carry out food extraction processes and spectrophotometric analyses of food constituents. Furthermore, we can draw on a broad portfolio of established science communication methods, proven concepts, and a strong sustainability-focused network developed through previous projects, such as Offene Digitalisierungsallianz Pfalz I and II.
