Topic 2: Towards diverse, sustainable and circular food processing systems
As the Post-Harvest Physiology Department of Atatürk Central Horticultural Research Institute (Turkey), we offer specialized infrastructure for the physiological validation and shelf-life optimization of horticultural crops.
We provide:
Validation Services: Testing the efficacy of novel packaging materials and storage technologies on fruit quality under controlled conditions.
Infrastructure: Advanced cold storage facilities, Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) units, and fully equipped laboratories for analyzing respiration rates, ethylene production, and other quality parameters.
Product Expertise: Deep knowledge of post-harvest handling for climacteric fruits (e.g., Persimmon, Kiwifruit) and minimizing supply chain losses.
Impact Assessment: Evaluating how new processing, labelling, applications or packaging techniques interact with fruit physiology to ensure consumer safety and product quality.
We are seeking collaboration on all three topics.
Atatürk Central Horticultural Research Institute is a public research institution under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Türkiye, specialized in horticultural research and innovation.
The institute conducts applied and strategic research on fruit and vegetable production, post-harvest physiology, quality preservation, loss reduction, and sustainable production systems. It plays an active role in transferring scientific knowledge to farmers, advisors and other stakeholders through training activities, demonstrations and extension services.
The Institute is equipped with advanced cold storage facilities and laboratories dedicated to shelf-life studies, allowing for the validation of new post-harvest technologies and packaging solutions under controlled conditions.
