Topic 2: Towards diverse, sustainable and circular food processing systems
GTE is seeking to join consortia addressing Topic 2 with a strong focus on circular food processing systems, particularly projects that aim to:
• Valorise agri-food by-products and side-streams into high-value food ingredients, materials or packaging solutions
• Assess and optimise environmental, economic and circularity performance of novel food processing, preservation and packaging technologies
• Support low-impact food processing methods that preserve nutritional quality, extend shelf-life and reduce food waste
• Integrate life cycle thinking, sustainability metrics and decision-support tools into food innovation and pilot-scale demonstrations
• Contribute to impact-driven and innovation-oriented projects (both Exploratory Research and Accelerating Innovation types)
GTE is interested in acting as a technical sustainability partner, leading or supporting tasks related to LCA, TEA, circularity indicators, environmental performance benchmarking, impact assessment, and translation of R&I results into scalable, market-relevant and policy-aligned solutions.
GTE is an engineering consultancy company specialised in sustainability, circular economy and resource efficiency, with extensive experience in national and international research and innovation projects related to food systems, agri-food value chains and circular processing.
Founded in 2008 and headquartered in Ankara, with a branch in London, GTE has delivered over 150 projects across Türkiye and internationally, working with industry, SMEs, public authorities, NGOs and research organisations. GTE actively participates in EU and transnational programmes including PRIMA, Horizon Europe, ERA-NETs, SBEP, COST and bilateral R&D schemes.
Within the agri-food and food processing domain, GTE’s core competences include:
• Life Cycle Assessment (ISO 14040/44), environmental footprinting and circularity performance evaluation of food products, packaging, processes and value chains
• Techno-economic assessment and feasibility analysis of circular food processing and valorisation pathways
• By-product and side-stream analysis, upcycling strategies and circular bioeconomy solutions
• Sustainability assessment of bio-based, active and antimicrobial packaging systems and shelf-life extension technologies
• Integration of sustainability metrics into innovation pilots, decision-support tools and digital platforms
GTE is currently involved in several PRIMA-funded food and packaging projects, focusing on agro-food by-product valorisation, bio-based active packaging, and sustainability assessment across the full food value chain. These projects directly align with Topic 2 objectives on circularity, waste reduction, resource efficiency and sustainable food processing systems.
