Topic 2: Towards diverse, sustainable and circular food processing systems
We have done research on the use of organic residues as fertilisers in agriculture. We have experience with a number of different residues, both in terms of origin and processing (e.g. digestate, compost, ash/char and food waste, agricultural waste, waste from fishery and aquaculture) and we have assessed them both for fertiliser value and environmental impact (e.g. nutrient losses, global warming potential). We think this is a necessary part of making food systems more circular.
At the department of Agricultural Sciences, we have research and development projects on soil, fertilisation, grazing, animal husbandry, plant cultivation and mechanisation. We are organised in one research group at the department with a wide professional expertise and with good knowledge of Norwegian agricultural conditions. We work cross-functionally and are also involved in other research groups at the faculty. We see new technology and circular solutions as part of the future.
