Topic 3: Importance of trust and transparency
We are interested in cooperating as a research and sustainability assessment partner in projects aiming to increase consumer trust and transparency through evidence-based sustainability information and labelling systems.
We seek collaboration with research organisations, SMEs, technology providers, retailers and policy actors to co-develop, test and evaluate integrated labelling frameworks and digital transparency tools, ensuring they are scientifically robust, legally compliant and meaningful for diverse consumer groups.
Our role focuses on the definition of metrics and indicators, data analysis, and evaluation frameworks to assess the effectiveness of sustainability communication, smart labels and digital tools (e.g. QR codes, mobile applications) in influencing trust and engagement.
Our organisation is a research group at the University of Cantabria specialised in the development and application of sustainability indicators and environmental communication tools for food systems, grounded in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and environmental footprint methodologies.
We have strong expertise in the translation of complex sustainability data into clear, transparent and evidence-based information, supporting the design of integrated labelling schemes and digital transparency solutions that encompass environmental and climate dimensions, and can be combined with other food attributes.
The group has extensive experience in European and national R&I projects, collaborating with academia, industry and technology partners to develop and test smart labels, traceability-linked indicators and decision-support tools. Our work contributes to measuring effectiveness, identifying trade-offs and supporting governance and policy-relevant discussions on food labelling, trust and transparency across food value chains.
