Consortium interest/role
Open to join a FutureFoodS Topic 2 consortium as a partner or WP leader (extraction/encapsulation, packaging, characterisation). We have strong experience in EU collaborative projects and are eligible under the requirements for the FutureFoodS Call 2025 Topic 2.

What we offer
-Advanced extraction and valorisation of agro-food by-products/side-streams using MAE and UAE, with expertise to optimise, hybridise and scale up MAE towards efficient and circular processing routes.
-Encapsulation of natural bioactives and development of delivery formats to improve stability, functionality and controlled release in food and/or packaging applications.
-Functional food formulation using ingredients/bioactives derived from food by-products (supported by recent research lines and thesis work).
-Bio-based materials and active packaging: development of nano-biocomposites and incorporation of nanomaterials and natural compounds into biopolymer matrices to enhance barrier/mechanical performance and enable antioxidant/antimicrobial functions.
-Processing, analysis and characterisation capabilities for both foods and packaging materials, supporting iterative development from lab scale to validation.

NANOBIOPOL (University of Alicante, Spain) is a research group established in 2008 focused on polymers, nanomaterials and bio-based solutions for the food sector. We develop biopolymers, nano-biocomposites and active food packaging to reduce plastic waste, improving barrier and mechanical performance through the incorporation of nanomaterials. In parallel, we work on functional food development, including the recovery of high-added-value bioactive compounds from agro-food side-streams via innovative extraction technologies and their stabilisation through formulation strategies. This integrated approach (foods + packaging) is supported by extensive international publications and solid experience in national and EU-funded collaborative projects (including European projects).
