Topic 1: Domestic food practices for enhancing sustainable and healthy diets
Our group specialized in dietary exposure assessment for contaminants, food additives and nutrients and has many years of experience in supporting evidence-based food risk assessment. Our work is based on comprehensive datasets from total diet studies, food monitoring programs, and food consumption surveys covering multiple age groups including children and older adults.
Our core topics are:
- The assessment of exposure for the purpose of food risk evaluation encompasses a range of factors, including environmental and process contaminants, food additives, fortified nutrients, and mycotoxins.
- Improving data availability for exposure assessments is achieved through conducting studies, supporting study implementation, and contributing to study tenders.
- The advancement of food consumption survey methods is of paramount importance, and this involves the development and application of digital data collection tools.
We are eager to collaborate on research projects and welcome opportunities to contribute our expertise to joint initiatives within Topic 1 & 2.
The German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) gives independent, science-based advice on food, chemical and product safety to protect people's health in Germany and throughout Europe. Its work focuses on assessing the risks associated with food, chemicals, consumer products, and pesticides based on international scientific standards. The BfR also does its own research, develops its own assessment methods, and works with other national and international risk assessment networks.
