Topic 2: Towards diverse, sustainable and circular food processing systems
Yalova Municipality will participate in the project as an Associated Partner and self-funded entity. It will provide washing facilities for household consumers at the neighborhood fruit and vegetable market and for wholesale fruit and vegetable production. It will assign personnel to work at these two locations. It will provide the necessary infrastructure such as electricity and water. The washing water from the system will be stored and used for washing at the market and wholesale markets. It will provide access to and information for urban food environments, neighborhood fruit and vegetable markets, wholesale fruit and vegetable markets, and local food service businesses. For at least 3 months (on market days), it will set up a stand at the neighborhood fruit and vegetable market where the washing system is installed to provide information, direct consumers to the washing facility, and promote the project. It will assign personnel for this purpose. It will be the umbrella organization for the “Clean Vegetables – Safe Table” Certification and Service Model. It will ensure the model is announced throughout the province, and will provide, implement, and monitor the certification service. It will also ensure the continuation of this model after the project is completed. The municipality will contribute to the real-world applicability and scalability of the developed water-saving vegetable washing system by supporting the pilot application, stakeholder participation, and policy-oriented dissemination activities. Yalova Municipality will support the pilot application, stakeholder participation, and policy-oriented dissemination activities to contribute to the real-world applicability and scalability of the developed water-saving vegetable washing system. If positive feedback is received, the municipality will install the washing system for household consumers, developed as part of the project, in the 2nd Indoor Market within the boundaries of the Central District using its own resources.
