Topic 2: Towards diverse, sustainable and circular food processing systems
Expertise and Added Value: We contribute applied expertise in innovative post-harvest food processing for sustainable food systems. Our focus lies on the transformation of marine, plant-based and circular biomass into functional and market-relevant food ingredients and products.
A particular strength is the combination of food chemistry, innovative processing and practical product/ingredient development within real-life food system settings. Through our analytical laboratory and Food Innovation Lab, we can support ingredient characterisation, proof-of-concept development and small-scale validation, including flavour, aroma and sensory evaluation.
Located in the Zeeland Delta, we operate within a unique blue-green ecosystem where aquaculture, agriculture and food processing are closely interconnected. Strong collaboration with SMEs and living lab environments enables direct validation and implementation of sustainable food innovations in practice.
HZ University of Applied Sciences is a Dutch university of applied sciences located in the Zeeland Delta region. HZ has a strong focus on practice-oriented research and regional innovation, working closely with SMEs, public authorities and knowledge institutions.
Within the domains of food, water and sustainability, HZ combines applied research, education and innovation in real-life environments. Through its analytical laboratory facilities, Food Innovation Lab and regional living lab infrastructure, HZ supports the development and validation of sustainable food innovations.
HZ is actively connected to regional and interregional innovation ecosystems involving aquaculture, agriculture, circular biomass valorisation and food processing.
