Topic 2: Towards diverse, sustainable and circular food processing systems
We are interested in collaborating on research projects in both Topic 1 and 2, as a partner or potentially coordinator for projects well aligned with our competence. We are particularly interested in new food ingredients (e.g. microbial, marine-based, upcycling of residual biomass), food safety characterization (microbial, chemical), bio-based coatings and packaging, and use of biotechnology in food processing (fermentation, enzymes) - but are open to discussing other topics. We are also searching for a partner with competence and good model systems to study the effects of new food ingredients on the human microbiota.
SINTEF is one of Europe's largest independent research institutes, with more than 2000 employees developing technology for a better society. The Department of Biotechnology and Nanomedicine (BTN) has specific competence and state-of-the-art facilities for bioprocess engineering (including use of enzymes and microbial fermentation), formulation and delivery of active compounds, high-throughput screening of bioactivities, chemical analysis and characterization, microbiology, and biomass processing and biorefinery. BTN coordinates and participates in several EU Horizon projects and co-funded partnerships, and has a large network of research and industry collaborators.
