Topic 1: Domestic food practices for enhancing sustainable and healthy diets
The Nutritional Epidemiology & AI Research Group at Karadeniz Technical University (KTÜ) bridges the gap between clinical nutrition and artificial intelligence. Led by an Associate Professor, our team specializes in childhood obesity prevention and digital health interventions. We offer strong scientific expertise for FutureFoodS projects, particularly in designing AI-powered tools for personalized nutrition and zero-waste food preparation. Although we are an academic research group, we have a ready-to-implement conceptual framework for digital interventions and the infrastructure to conduct comprehensive clinical and dietary assessments (including biomarkers). Furthermore, through our established connections with local school networks in Türkiye, we have the capacity to mobilize families and children to set up "Living Labs" for piloting sustainable food innovations in a real-world Mediterranean context.
Karadeniz Technical University (KTÜ), established in 1955, is a leading research hub in Türkiye with a strong dual focus on health sciences and engineering. Within this ecosystem, our Department of Nutrition and Dietetics serves as a center of excellence for nutritional epidemiology and clinical research, supported by advanced laboratory infrastructure. Uniquely, our research group operates at the intersection of health and technology through a seamless collaboration with the Department of Artificial Intelligence Engineering, allowing us to develop cutting-edge, AI-driven solutions for personalized nutrition, obesity prevention, and sustainable food systems.
