Topic 1: The way towards sustainable and resilient food systems
We are currently seeking collaborators in the field of sustainable and circular bioprocessing - in the context of microbial foods. Colaborative research topics concerning sustainable bioprocessing may involve identifying and optimizing side-/waste-streams as substrates for microbial food production in bioreactors, e.g. single-cell protein. Topics concerning circular bioprocessing may involve research questions concerning circularizing material streams such as CO2 or water in fermentation processes. Our main interest is to assess microbial robustness (a.k.a. producer phenotype stability) in said process cconfigurations to i) understand phenotypic drivers on different -omics levels (mainly genomics and transcriptomics) ii) leverage the generated knowledge to design robust microbes or bioprocesses.
Our institute (https://www.kasterlab.com/research/) is primarily involved in developing and applying multi-omics analysis to identify and uncover microbial and functional dark matter, see link. However, we are currently seeking to expand our activities toward investigating microbial food production.
