Topic 2: New foods – Fostering innovations in food design, processing and supply via demand-and-supply reorientation
We are looking for partnership in a project related to new foods. Our expertises are:
• Generation of novel plant suspension cell lines from plant material or seeds
• Quick production of functional proteins/enzymes variants in cell-free system
• Large scale production of protein/metabolites in plant cells/microbes (up to a cultivation volume of 400L)
• Cultivation/treatment of plants in the greenhouse
• Various possibilities for state-of-the-art analytics (see below)
Fraunhofer IME has comprehensive expertise in molecular biotechnology including genome editing, metabolic engineering, plant and tissue cultivation recovery and purification of target compounds from plant tissues and production of proteins in various procaryotic and eucaryotic hosts. The institute has a modern infrastructure which allows for the characterization and quantification of substances by surface plasmon resonance, HPLC, LC-MS/MS and GC-MS. Furthermore a state-of-the-art greenhouse (biosafety level S1) that can be used conventionally or for hydroponics (nutrient film technology) and fermentation equipment (up to 300L) are part of day-to-day routines.
