Topic 1: The way towards sustainable and resilient food systems
We are interested in participating in a partnership for a project focused on topic 1. or topic 2. Below, we describe our main research experience:
The MICROTEC group aims to improve the quality and safety of fishery and aquaculture products within the framework of the Green Deal and the Blue Transformation strategy, which is necessary to transform aquatic systems, guaranteeing their sustainability and avoiding food insecurity due to the effects of climate and resource depletion.
The research of MicroTEC is focused on developing new food safety management systems that consider important issues like climate change or the appearance of new hazards derived from new production methods.
We also have extensive experience with various technologies that can enhance digitalization in the food chain (4.0). This includes the use of molecular techniques such as isothermal amplification, PCR, and qPCR for the rapid detection of food pathogens throughout the food supply chain or the use of non-invasive technologies like hyperspectral analysis to monitor the quality and safety of food products.
The Institute of Marine Research (IIM-CSIC) is dedicated to enhancing our understanding of the ocean, including its physical characteristics, the resources it provides, and the processes that connect the entire system. As part of the Spanish Research Council (CSIC), we take pride in our interdisciplinary approach, which aims to contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and support society in addressing the significant challenges we face.
The IIM aspires to evolve into a multidisciplinary research center that tackles societal challenges by leveraging the knowledge we gain from the sea. We focus on the global objectives outlined by the UN Sustainable Development Goals while maintaining strong connections to the local communities around us, considering their needs, expectations, and insights.
